In addition to 256-bit XTS-AES hardware encryption, the drive features a durable zinc casing that is waterproof1, dustproof1, military-grade vibration and shock-resistant2, crush-resistant, and filled with a special epoxy resin to protect internal components from penetration attacks.

Upon startup, the D500S performs self-tests and automatically shuts down if overheating or overvoltage occurs. Additionally, the D500S flash drive uses digitally signed firmware, making it resistant to attacks using the BadUSB malware. A permanently enabled Brute Force protection feature prevents multiple password attempts and cryptographically erases the drive’s contents after the maximum number of attempts has been exceeded.

The device also offers multiple password support, allowing access to data using an administrator password, a user password, or a one-time recovery password. The administrator can reset the user’s password and create a one-time recovery password to allow the user to access their data if they forget their password.

The D500S flash drive can operate with either traditional complex passwords or passphrases. Passphrases can be 10 to 128 characters long. The FBI recommends using multi-word passphrases of 15 or more characters, as they are harder to guess and easier to remember than complex passwords.

The D500S is the first on the market to offer a dual-hidden partition feature, allowing the administrator to create two secure partitions of custom sizes for the administrator and user. This hidden file storage can be used to share files on the user partition if necessary. When using unknown systems or sharing the drive, these hidden file storages, which can only be accessed through specific methods, ensure data remains secure and invisible.

Using a special key sequence, the administrator can enter a Crypto-Erase password, which cryptographically erases data from the drive and resets it to prevent unauthorized access in emergencies.

To reduce password entry errors, a password preview option (the eye symbol) is available on all screens. A virtual English keyboard5 is also useful, protecting passwords from keystroke logging software (keylogger) or screen recording software (screen logger).

The D500S also supports two levels of read-only (write-protection) modes. Both the administrator and user can set read-only mode per session to protect the drive from malware on unknown systems. The administrator can also enable general read-only mode, which remains active until the drive is reset.

Besides security, it also ensures fast dual-channel operation. The drive has a unique 8-digit serial number stored on the device, engraved on the casing, and available as a barcode that can be scanned for registration or audit purposes.
